We live in an age that constantly tells us: “Be whatever you want. Do what makes you happy. Chase your dream.” In a country like America, the message is even louder: “If you just work hard and stay disciplined, you can be anything.” And while hard work and discipline are good, there’s a hidden danger—making ourselves the center of our story.
Jesus doesn’t call us to follow ourselves. He calls us to follow Him. Over and over again, He says it plainly:
“If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Lk 9:23, RSVCE)
And even after His Resurrection, His final command to Peter is simple and direct:
“Follow me.” (Jn 21:19, RSVCE)
Peter’s story is our story. He had plans. He had questions. He wanted to compare himself to others. But Jesus shut that down and gave him one job: follow Me.
The same goes for you. You weren’t created to chase your own plan. You were created to discover and live out God’s will. That path may be hard—but it leads to glory. And the only way to find it is to ask Jesus what His will is, every day.
Challenge:
Today, stop and ask: “Jesus, what do You want me to do today?” Let go of your own agenda for a moment and seek His will. Then take one step—even a small one—in obedience to what He shows you.
