Adsumus (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2)
We have come, O Lord, Holy Spirit, we have come before You, hampered indeed by our many and grievous sins, but for a special purpose gathered together in Your name.
Come to us, be with us, and enter our hearts. Teach us what we are to do and what ought to concern us; show us what we must accomplish, in order that, with Your help, we may be able to please You in all things.
May You alone be the author and the finisher of our judgments, Who alone with God the Father and his Son possess a glorious name. Do not allow us to disturb the order of justice, You who love equity above all things.
Let not ignorance draw us into devious paths. Let not partiality sway our minds or respect of riches or persons pervert our judgment. But unite our hearts to You by the gift of your grace alone, that we may be one in You and never forsake the truth; as we are gathered together in Your name, so may we in all things hold fast to justice tempered by mercy, that in this life our judgment may never be at variance with You and in the life to come we may attain to everlasting rewards for deeds well done. Amen.
Veni Creator
(Partial Indulgence when prayed at the beginning or ending of the day, before starting work or ending work, before or after meals. MOI 26.2)
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest; come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
O comforter, to Thee we cry, O heavenly gift of God Most High, O fount of life and fire of love, and sweet anointing from above.
Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known; Thou, finger of God’s hand we own; Thou, promise of the Father, Thou Who dost the tongue with power imbue.
Kindle our sense from above, and make our hearts o’erflow with love; with patience firm and virtue high the weakness of our flesh supply.
Far from us drive the foe we dread, and grant us Thy peace instead; so shall we not, with Thee for guide, turn from the path of life aside.
Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow the Father and the Son to know; and Thee, through endless times confessed, of both the eternal Spirit blest.
Now to the Father and the Son, Who rose from death, be glory given, with Thou, O Holy Comforter, henceforth by all in earth and heaven. Amen.
Come Holy Spirit, Sanctifier
Come, Holy Spirit, Sanctifier all powerful, God of love, You who did fill the Virgin Mary with grace, You who did wonderfully transform the hearts of the Apostles, You who did endow all Your martyrs with a miraculous heroism, come and sanctify us. Illumine our minds, strengthen our wills, purify our consciences, rectify our judgments, set our hearts on fire, and preserve us from the misfortune of resisting Your inspirations. Amen. (Rac 290).
Holy Spirit of the Pentecost
O Holy Spirit, Who on the solemn day of Pentecost did suddenly descend upon the Apostles gathered in the Upper Room in parted tongues as it were of fire and did so enlighten their minds, inflame their hearts, and strengthen their wills, that from then on, they went through the entire world and courageously and confidently proclaimed everywhere the teaching of Christ and sealed it with the shedding of their blood, renew, we beg You, the wondrous outpouring of Your grace in our hearts also.
How grievously our minds are afflicted with ignorance concerning the nature and dignity of those divine truths which form the object of faith, without which no man may hope for salvation. How far men go astray from a just estimation of earthy goods, which too often are put before the soul itself. How often our hearts do not beat with love of the Creator as they ought, but rather with an ignoble lust for creatures. How often are we led by a false respect for human judgment, when we ought to profess openly the precept so Jesus Christ and to reduce them to action with a sincere heart and with the loss, if need be, of our worldly substance. What weakness we manifest in embracing and carrying with a serene and willing heart the crosses of this life, which alone can make the Christian a worthy follower of his Divine Master.
O Holy Spirit, enlighten our minds, cleanse our hearts, and give new strength to our wills; to such a degree at least, that we may clearly recognized the value of our soul, and in like manner, despise the perishable goods of this world; that we may love God above all things, and, for the love of Him, our neighbor as ourselves; that we may not only be free from fearing professing our faith publicly, but rather may glory in it; finally, that we may accept not only prosperity but also adversity as from the hand of the Lord, with all confidence that He will turn all things into good for those who lovingly tend towards Him. Grant, we beg You, that we, by constantly answering the sweet impulses of Your Grace and doing that which is good with a persevering heart, may deserve one day to receive the rich reward of glory everlasting Amen. (Rac 291).
