Prayers for the Holy Catholic Church
Prayer for the Church
Graciously hear the prayer of You Church, we beg You, O Lord; that her emeries and all heresies may be brought to nothing, and that she may serve You in perfect security and freedom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Rac 718).
Prayer to St. Joseph for the Church
To thee O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulation, and, having implored the help of your thrice-holy Spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also. By the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly affection with which you did embrace the Child Jesus, we beg you and we humbly pray, that you would look graciously upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by His Blood an assist us in our needs by your power and strength.
Most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, protect the chosen people of Jesus Christ; keep far from us, most loving father, all blight of errors and corruption; mercifully assist us from Heaven, most mighty defender, in this our conflict with the powers of darkness; and, even as of old you did rescue the Child Jesus from the supreme peril of His life, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; keep us one and all under your continual protection, that we may be supported by your example and your assistance, may be enabled to lead a holy life, die a happy death and come at last to the possession of everlasting blessedness in Heaven. Amen. (Rac 476).

Prayers for Priests, Deacons and Seminarians
Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, humbled in the Eucharist to be the source and center of charity of the Catholic Church and the strength of souls, we offer You our prayers, our actions, our sufferings in behalf of Your priests, to the end that each day may behold the wider extension of the Kingdom of Your Sacred Heart (Rac 658).
Prayer for Clergy
O God, Who appointed Your only-begotten Son to be the eternal High Priest for the glory of Your Majesty and the salvation of mankind; grant that they whom He has chosen to be His ministers and the stewards of His mysteries, may be found faithful in the fulfillment of the ministry which they have received. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. (Rac 660).
Prayer for Priests – Pope St. Pius X
O Jesus, eternal Hight Priests, Divine Sacrificer, You Who in an unspeakable burst of love for men, Your brethren, did cause the Christian priesthood to spring forth from Your Sacred Heart, graciously pour forth upon Your priests continual living streams of infinite love.
Live in them, transform them into You; make them by Your grace, fit instruments of Your mercy; act in them and through them, and grant, that they may become wholly one with You by their faithful imitation of Your virtues; and in Your Name and by the strength of Your Spirit, may they do the works which You accomplished for the salvation of the world.
Divine Redeemer of souls, behold how great is the multitude of those who still sleep in the darkness of error; gather up the number of those unfaithful sheep who stray to the edge of the precipice; consider the throngs of the poor, the hungry, the ignorant and the feeble who groan in their abandoned condition.
Return to us in the person of Your priests; truly live again in them; act through them and pass once more through the world, teaching, forgiving, comforting, sacrificing and renewing the sacred bonds of love between the Heart of God and the heart of man. Amen. (Rac 659).
Litany of Prayers for Priests
O Almighty Eternal God our Father, look upon the face of Your Son, and for love of Him Who is the Eternal High Priest, have pity on Your priests. Remember O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.
O Jesus, Our Eternal High Priest, I pray:
for Your faithful and fervent priests;
for Your unfaithful and tepid priests;
for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields;
for Your tempted priests;
for Your young priests;
for Your dying priests;
for the souls of Your priests in Purgatory.
But above all, I commend to You:
the priests dearest to me;
the priest who baptized me;
the priests who absolved me from my sins;
the priests at whose masses I assist;
the priests who taught and instructed me about You and Your Holy Scriptures;
the priests who helped and encouraged me to accept You as my Lord and Savior;
and all the priests whom You sent to touch my life and those of my loved ones.
Let us Pray For:
The Holy Father: fill him with Your grace, Lord;
Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops: give them your gifts, Lord;
Diocesan Priests: never leave them, Lord;
Priests in seminary work: give them Your wisdom,
Lord; Priests in hospital work: give them constancy, Lord;
Priests who are ill: heal them, Lord;
Priests in danger: deliver them, Lord;
Priests who are weak: strengthen them, Lord;
Priests who are poor: relieve them, Lord;
Priests who are zealous: help them, Lord;
Priests who want to love You: enkindle their hearts, Lord;
Priests who are sad: console them, Lord;
Priests who are worried: give them peace, Lord;
Priests who are old: sustain them, Lord;
Priests who are young: impel them for your glory, Lord;

Missionary priests: protect them, Lord;

Priests who direct souls: instruct them, Lord;
Parish priests: make them perfect, Lord;

All the Church, militant and suffering: Lord, have mercy.
For all Priests:

Give them a burning zeal for souls.
Give them an intense love for the Eucharist.
Give them loyalty to the Pope and their Bishops.
Give them respect for their dignity.
Give them a great love for Mary.
Give them rectitude for justice.
Give them the gift of counsel.
Give them strength in their labors.
Give them peace in their sufferings.
Give them humility and generosity.
Let them be the light of souls.
Let them be the salt of the earth.
Let them practice sacrifice and self denial.
Let them enkindle hearts with the love of Mary.
Let them be other Christs.
Let them be holy in body and soul.
May they be men of prayer.
May faith shine forth in them.
May they be faithful to their priestly vocation.
May their hands know only how to bless.
May they burn with love for You and for Mary.
May all their steps be for the glory of God.
May the Holy Spirit possess them, and give them His gifts and fruits in abundance.
Let us pray: O God, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, You are the soul and the life of the Church. Hear the prayers we offer for priests.
We ask this through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, their protector and guide. Amen.
Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood
O God our Father, You promised “I will appoint shepherds for My sheep who will shepherd them so that they need no longer fear and tremble: and none shall be missing.” (Jer. 23:4-5). Hear the prayers of Your flock. Through the intercession of Your beloved priest, Saint John Vianney, we beg You to call to the sacramental priesthood generous men who will desire nothing more than to serve You in imitation of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, our High Priest.
And after You call them, we pray that You sustain the doubtful, console the discouraged, and strengthen the weak as they start the long and demanding preparation for the priesthood.
Mary, Mother of priests, and example of faithful, humble, and joyful acceptance of God’s will, help all those who are called to the priesthood to open their ears and hearts to the gentle call of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer for Deacons
O God, Father of us all, look with favor upon those whom You have called to the sacred and ancient ministry of the diaconate. Through the intercession of St. Stephen, grant grace to Your deacons as they minister in charity to the poor, proclaim the Holy Gospel at Mass, and assist Your priests at the altar.
Keep close to Your heart, Lord, the wives and children of permanent deacons, and grant that the witness of their husbands and fathers may bring about holiness and virtue in each family member. We ask this through Jesus Christ who is Lord forever and ever. Amen
Prayer for Seminarians
O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Director in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps; so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom and heroes of sacrifice; steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man; apostles of Your glory and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen.
