“And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct…Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.” (Rom 1:28, 32)
Consider: An unfortunate young boy is raised in a brothel and exposed to every kind of extreme sexual perversion until he gradually accepts sexual sin as normal and loses all ability to tell right from wrong.
The man who pursues pornography is exposed to vast numbers of women and men engaged in extremely perverted, degrading, and violent sexual behaviors, and he begins to accept sexual depravity.
Realize: Research shows that increased pornography consumption progressively corrupts moral judgment, leading the pornified man to tolerate, approve, desire, and engage in gravely disordered sexual acts, to reject marriage and monogamy, to support attempts to redefine marriage, and to grow indifferent to sexual exploitation, degradation, and violence. This moral corruption can cripple his ability to teach his children about sexual sin and Chastity. Like the young boy raised in a brothel, the pornified man comes to accept sexual evil and is formed to desire it, excuse it, defend it, and participate in it.
Resolution: Today, I practice Heroic Sexual Self-discipline so I may align my moral judgment with God’s Truth and enjoy the great joy of Chastity.
Most Holy Christ, I am shocked and horrified that pornography has warped my moral judgment, leading me to tolerate, accept, become excited by, desire, and engage in sexual perversion. I now understand St. Paul’s warning, “Do not be deceived, ‘Bad company corrupts good morals’” (1 Cor 15:33). I beg You to help me never again look at pornography and erase the pornography library embedded in my memory. I commit to conforming my moral judgment to the truth of Your beautiful blessing of sexual union within marriage by studying the Church’s teaching on sexual sin (CCC 2351–2359, 2380–2381, 2387–2391). I trust that You will help me battle pornography, hate sexual sin, and learn to cherish the blessing of Chastity. Divine Savior, help me to delight in Your truth, love the good, hate what is evil, and to become a saint.
Examine: How can pornography lead a man to tolerate sexual sin?
Pray: Lord Jesus Christ, help me build the Virtue of Truth (a part of Justice) so I may reject the lies of pornography and be restored to the fullness of Your truth about sexual sin and Chastity entrusted to Your Holy Catholic Church. Amen.
