A man’s vocation during the day is typically the longest day-part of a man’s waking hours. Though this day-part is busy and sometimes stressful, a man should take time during the day to pray to God; this is easily done by praying before his meals and a man can also set aside specific times to pray which the Church has deemed to be sacred (e.g. 3 p.m., the Holy Hour of Christ’s Death) or by offering short prayers at mid-morning, mid-day, and mid-afternoon.

Praying in the Presence of Jesus Christ in Adoration (Partial Indulgence MOI 7.1.2)

Travel to a nearby parish and pray in the Presence of Jesus Christ who resides in the Eucharistic Host in the Tabernacle or is exposed in a monstrance in an Adoration Chapel. A man can also receive a Plenary Indulgence for spending time in Adoration (see The Manual of Indulgences for the requirements; MOI 7.1.1).

Prayer before work – Actiones nostras (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2)

Direct, we beseech Thee, O Lord, all our actions by Thy holy inspiration, carry them on by Thy gracious assistance, that every word and work of ours may always begin from Thee and by Thee be happily ended. Amen.

Prayers at Mealtimes

Benedic, Domine – Before Meals (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2.3)

Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Agimus tibia gratis – After Meals (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2.3) – After meals.

We give Thee Thanks, O Almighty God, for all Thy mercies. Who livest and reigned forever and ever. Amen.

Short Prayers to pray often

The Church encourages every man to lift up his heart and mind to God many times each day through pious invocations. Find several which move your heart, memorize them, and pray them often each day.

Prayers to praise and honor God

O King of the Ages, mortal and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts; the Heavens and earth are full of Your glory.

May the most just, the most high and the most lovable will of God be in all things done, praised and evermore exalted.

My God and my all.

Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Blessed be the Holy Trinity.

Thanks be to the Almighty Father.

Christ conquers! Christ reigns! Christ rules!

Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.

Protection and help

O God, Thou are all-powerful, make me a saint.

From all sin deliver me, O Lord.

O God, come unto my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me.

Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies.

Into Thine hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.

Lord, increase our faith.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for me.
