After a night of rest, the first part of a man’s day is when he wakes up and has his first thoughts of the day. To help a man draw close to God, it is helpful to seek to say, “good morning” to God upon first awakening and to make the commitment to serve God as best he can in the coming day.

This prayer routine includes prayers which are specially indulged by the Church in The Manual of Indulgences (noted as: MOI), prayers which have been specifically indulged in the past in the Raccolta (noted as: Rac) and other powerful prayers from various traditional prayer books.

Sign of the Cross  (Partial Indulgence MOI 28.2)

In the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Prayer for Intention to receive Indulgences

Note: It is necessary to have “at  least a general intention” to gain an indulgence (MOI N17); use the following example prayer or a prayer of your own choosing to confirm your desire to receive Indulgences today.

I desire to gain all the Indulgences which the Church may grant for the prayers and good works I shall offer to God today [and I submit to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to determine how any Indulgence I am granted will be used, either for the remission of sin for me or for souls in Purgatory]. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, Savior of Man. Amen.

Glory Be

Option 1 – Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Option 2 – Glory be to the Father, who hath created me. Glory be to the Son, who hath redeemed me. Glory be to the Holy Spirit, who hath sanctified me. Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity now and for ever. Amen.

The Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil [the Evil One]. Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Renewal of one’s Baptismal Vows (Partial Indulgence MOI 28.1)

I renounce Satan and all his pomps [bragging] and all his works, and I promise to cling to Christ with all faithfulness. Amen. (Rac 679)

Give Thanks to God

Option 1 – Domine, Deus Omnipotens (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2)

Lord, God Almighty, You have brought us safely to the beginning of this day. Defend us today by Your mighty power, that we may not fall into any sin, but that all our words may so proceed and all our thoughts and actions be so directed, as to be always just in Your sight. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Option 2 – Actiones nostras (Partial Indulgence MOI 26.2)

Direct, we beseech thee, O Lord, all our actions by Thy holy inspiration, carry them on by Thy gracious assistance, that every word and work of ours may always begin from Thee and by Thee be happily ended. Amen.

The Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all the apostles of prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month. Amen.

Sign of the Cross (Partial Indulgence MOI 28.2)

In the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
